Long Jetty is a cool suburb located on the Central Coast of New South Wales, Australia. It sits on a narrow piece of land. This land has Tuggerah Lake on one side and the Pacific Ocean on the other. It's just south of a town called The Entrance. Long Jetty is part of the Central Coast Council local government area.
One special street in The Entrance area starts in Long Jetty. It is called Toowoon Bay Road. This street is the only one that goes all the way from the lake to the sea.
A Look Back: Long Jetty's History
The town of Long Jetty gets its name from a very long jetty. This jetty is found at the end of Archbold Road. It first opened way back in 1915. That means it celebrated its 100th birthday in 2015!
The jetty was important for travel. It helped people cross Tuggerah Lake to Wyong. In the past, many important shops and services were near The Entrance Road and Archibold Street. This included the old post office.
What to See in Long Jetty
Long Jetty has always been a fun place for visitors. It used to have many places for entertainment. There was the old Savoy theatre. There was also the Long Jetty Roller Skating rink. Today, the roller skating rink building is a paint ball center. The old theatre building later became a supermarket.
Until the early 1990s, Long Jetty had many banks. These banks were mostly smaller branches of bigger banks from The Entrance. These included Commonwealth Bank and Westpac. Even though the buildings are still there, all these banks have now closed.
In recent years, Long Jetty has become popular again. It now has many cool new shops. You can find places selling new and second-hand furniture. There are also clothing stores, toy shops, and book stores. You can even find surfing gear and lots of cafes.
Jubilee Oval is a big sports field in Long Jetty. It is used for cricket games by The Entrance Cricket Club. It is connected to Sir Baden-Powell Reserve. This reserve is home to the 1st Tuggerah Lakes Scout Group.
Getting Around Long Jetty
Red Bus Services is the main bus company in the area. They run several bus routes through Long Jetty. These routes include numbers 21-26 and route 29. This makes it easy to travel around the suburb and to nearby towns.
