Long Lake is a community located in Lake County, Illinois, in the United States. It is an unincorporated community, meaning it doesn't have its own local government like a city or village. It is also a census-designated place (CDP). This means the United States Census Bureau defines it for gathering statistics. In 2020, about 3,663 people lived here.

Exploring Long Lake's Geography
Long Lake is found in the western part of Lake County. The community is named after and almost completely surrounds a body of water called Long Lake. This lake's water flows northwest into Manitou Creek, which then connects to Fox Lake. Fox Lake is part of the Chain O'Lakes, a group of lakes in northern Illinois.
Nearby Towns and Roads
To the northeast of Long Lake, you'll find the village of Round Lake Heights. To the east and south, it borders the village of Round Lake Beach.
Illinois Route 134 runs along the southern edge of the Long Lake community. If you drive west on this route for about 2 miles (3.2 km), you'll reach U.S. Route 12 in Fox Lake. Driving southeast for about 3.5 miles (5.6 km) through Round Lake Beach will take you to Hainesville. Long Lake is located about 46 miles (74 km) northwest of downtown Chicago.

The total area of the Long Lake community is about 4.1 square kilometers (1.6 square miles). Of this, about 2.6 square kilometers (1.0 square miles) is land. The remaining 1.5 square kilometers (0.6 square miles) is water, making up about 36.72% of the total area.

Train Service
The Long Lake station offers Metra commuter rail service. This train line is called the Milwaukee District North Line. You can take trains from Long Lake to Chicago Union Station, Fox Lake station, and other places in between. It's a convenient way to get to the city or other nearby towns.

Pace provides bus service in the area. Route 570 connects Long Lake to places like Fox Lake, Grayslake, and other destinations. Buses offer another option for getting around the community and to neighboring areas.
