Longuefuye (pronounced "long-fwee") was once a small commune in the Mayenne department of north-western France. A commune is like a small town or village area with its own local government.

On January 1, 2019, Longuefuye joined with another commune called Gennes-sur-Glaize. Together, they formed a new, larger commune named Gennes-Longuefuye. This means Longuefuye is no longer a separate commune on its own.

Where Was Longuefuye Located?

Longuefuye was situated in the western part of France. It was part of the Mayenne department. This department is known for its green landscapes and quiet countryside.

The area is generally flat, but with some gentle hills. The lowest point in Longuefuye was 52 meters (about 170 feet) above sea level. The highest point reached 116 meters (about 380 feet).

What Was Longuefuye Like?

Longuefuye was a small place. It covered an area of about 14.32 square kilometers (about 5.5 square miles). This is a bit smaller than a typical city park.

In 2019, just before it merged, Longuefuye had a population of 322 people. This shows it was a very small community. Most people in such areas live in quiet villages or on farms.

Why Did Communes Merge?

Sometimes, small communes in France decide to merge. This happens for several reasons. Merging can help them share resources better. It can also make local government more efficient.

For example, two small communes might share services like schools or waste collection. By merging, they can save money and offer better services to their citizens. This is what happened with Longuefuye and Gennes-sur-Glaize. They joined to form Gennes-Longuefuye.
