Lorenzo Buffon (born 19 December 1929) is a famous Italian former footballer. He played as a goalkeeper, which means he was the player who tries to stop the ball from going into the goal.
Lorenzo Buffon played for many Italian clubs during his career. He played 277 games for AC Milan and also for their city rivals, Inter Milan. He won five Serie A titles, which is the top football league in Italy. He also played 15 times for the Italian national team and represented his country in the 1962 FIFA World Cup.
Many people think Buffon was one of the best goalkeepers of his time. He was even chosen to be part of the FIFA All-Star team in the 1960s, alongside another great goalkeeper, Lev Yashin.

Playing for Clubs
Lorenzo Buffon was born in Majano, Italy. He played for 15 seasons in the Serie A, which is Italy's highest football league. He played 365 games in total in this league.
He started his career with a team called Portogruaro in 1948. The next year, he joined AC Milan. He played his first Serie A game for Milan on 15 January 1950. In that game, he did not let any goals in, and Milan won 1–0 against Sampdoria.
Buffon played 277 games for AC Milan. During his time there, he became very well-known. He helped Milan win four Serie A titles and two Latin Cups. He also played in the final of the 1957–58 European Cup, which is a big European club competition. Milan lost to Real Madrid in that final.
Lorenzo Buffon is one of only four goalkeepers in AC Milan's history to have played 300 games or more for the club. The others are Christian Abbiati, Sebastiano Rossi, and Dida.
Later Club Career
After playing for Milan, Buffon joined Genoa for one season in 1959. Then, in 1960, he moved to Inter Milan, who are AC Milan's big rivals.
With Inter Milan, Buffon won another Serie A title in the 1962–63 season. This was under the famous coach Helenio Herrera. In total, Lorenzo Buffon won five Serie A titles during his career.
After Inter, he played one season with Fiorentina and then finished his career with Ivrea in 1965.
Playing for Italy
Lorenzo Buffon also played for the Italian national team 15 times. He made his first international appearance on 9 September 1958, in a friendly game against France. The game ended in a 2–2 draw.
He was the captain and starting goalkeeper for Italy in the 1962 FIFA World Cup in Chile. He played in two matches during the tournament. He kept a clean sheet (meaning he didn't let any goals in) in a 0–0 draw against West Germany and in a 3–0 win over Switzerland. This game against Switzerland on 7 June was his last international appearance. Italy was unfortunately eliminated in the first round of the tournament.
How He Played
Lorenzo Buffon was a very athletic and reliable goalkeeper. He was known for his excellent positioning and how well he handled the ball. He had a very effective style of goalkeeping. He could make amazing saves without needing to do too many fancy moves. Because of his great shot-stopping skills, people called him Lorenzo il Magnifico, which means "Lorenzo the Magnificent."
He was quite tall and strong, which helped him in goal. However, he was sometimes criticized for being a bit inconsistent in his performances.
His Life After Football
After he stopped playing professional football, Lorenzo Buffon worked as a scout for AC Milan. This means he helped find young talented players for the club.
He is also related to another famous Italian goalkeeper, Gianluigi Buffon. Lorenzo is the second cousin of Gianluigi's grandfather. Lorenzo Buffon was married to the Italian actress and TV personality Edy Campagnoli.
