Lorne is a small, quiet place in Minnesota Falls Township, located in Yellow Medicine County, Minnesota. It is known as an unincorporated community. This means it's a group of homes and buildings that does not have its own local government, like a city or town would. Instead, it is part of a larger county or township.
History of Lorne
Lorne was first planned and settled in 1898. It was given its name to honor Marquess of Lorne. He was an important person who served as the Governor General of Canada from 1878 to 1883. A Governor General is a representative of the monarch (like a king or queen) in a country that is part of the Commonwealth of Nations.
A post office was opened in Lorne in 1905. This post office helped people send and receive mail, which was very important for communication back then. The post office stayed open for many years, but it closed down in 1935.
