Los Barriles is a cool town in Baja California Sur, Mexico. Its name means "The Barrels" in Spanish. In 2020, about 1,674 people lived there.
About Los Barriles
Los Barriles is located along Highway 1. It is about 40 miles north of San José del Cabo. It is also about 65 miles south of La Paz.
Location and Landscape
The town is near Buenavista. These two towns are at the top of Bahía las Palmas. This bay is part of the Gulf of California. In winter, strong winds blow from the west. These winds usually reach speeds of 20 to 25 knots.
Los Barriles is in a special area of the Baja California peninsula. Here, the hills of the Sierra de la Laguna turn into flat, sandy areas.
Fun Activities
Los Barriles is famous for its flyfishing. Many people come here to catch fish. It is also known as the best place in Baja for kitesurfing and windsurfing. These sports use the strong winds that blow across the bay.
In September 2013, the town's port had to close. This happened during Tropical Storm Lorena. This was to keep everyone safe from the storm.
