Los Callejones is a small, quiet town in the countryside of Chile. It's about 14 kilometers (around 9 miles) away from the city of San Rosendo in the Biobio area. This town is special because it has some of the oldest Malbec grapevines in Chile and even in South America! Some of these grapevines are more than 150 years old.

A Look Back in Time
Nobody knows exactly when people first started living in Los Callejones. There aren't any old books or papers that tell us its beginnings. Most of what we know comes from stories passed down through families, from grandparents to parents and then to children.
How Did the Names Come About?
Long ago, this area was sometimes called Turkey. People say this name came from an Arab family who settled here over a hundred years ago.
For a long time, the rural areas now known as Turkey, Los Callejones, and La Quebrada were all just called Turkey. Later, Los Callejones and La Quebrada became known as Los Callejones de Turkey and La Quebrada de Turkey.
Years later, the main settlement became known simply as Los Callejones. This name came from "El Callejón," which was the main road. This road was used for exciting Chilean horse races during the celebration of the Immaculate Conception. This holiday was a very popular event in the countryside back then, and many people came to Los Callejones for it.
Who Lives Here?
According to a count done in 2017, Los Callejones has 94 people living in 53 homes. This makes it a "hamlet," which is a very small village. It's one of the more populated rural towns in the San Rosendo area.
Most of the people living here are farmers and ranchers. In the past, many more people lived in Los Callejones. However, over time, there weren't enough jobs in the countryside. Also, living conditions were sometimes tough. Because of this, many young people decided to move to bigger cities to find better opportunities. This means that today, most of the people living in Los Callejones are older.
Nature and Landscape
Los Callejones is a beautiful place with many hills and streams. In some spots, it looks like a peaceful valley. It also has wide, flat areas with gentle slopes, which are perfect for farming.
One important stream here helps feed the Tricauco stream. The Tricauco stream starts in a rural area called "La Quebrada" from different water sources flowing down from the hills. Finally, it flows into the Claro River.
