Los Escullos facts for kids
Los Escullos is a small village in Spain. It's located in the province of Almería, within the Níjar area. This village is special because it's inside the beautiful Cabo de Gata Natural Park. Around Los Escullos, you can find cool places like "La playa del Arco" (Arch Beach) and "La cala del Embarcadero" (Pier Cove). In 2008, only 62 people lived there.
The Castle of San Felipe
This old castle was built in 1764. It was made during the time of King Charles III. The king wanted to protect the coast from attacks. The castle had rooms, a chapel, and offices, all built around a central courtyard. Building it cost a lot of money back then: 201,000 reales de vellón.
Later, during the Spanish Independence War, the French army took apart the castle's defenses. In the mid-1800s, special forces used the castle to watch over the coastline. By the 1900s, the castle was left empty. However, it was fixed up and restored between 1990 and 1991.
