About Los Nevados Town

Los Nevados gets its name from something special. The word "Nevados" means "snow-capped" in Spanish. This is because you could once see large glaciers from the town. These glaciers were on nearby mountain peaks. They were called León, Toro, and Espejo. Sadly, these glaciers melted away by the 1960s.

What People Do There

The main activity in Los Nevados is tourism. Many visitors come to enjoy the beautiful mountain scenery. A popular way to explore is by taking horse and donkey rides. These rides often start near the Loma Redonda cable car station. The Merida cable car is a famous way to reach this high-altitude area.

Farming in the Mountains

The people who live in Los Nevados also work as farmers. They grow various crops in the mountain soil. Some of the main crops include potatoes, corn, and wheat. They also grow garlic, which is used in many dishes. Farming is an important part of life for the town's residents.
