Los Robles La Paz, often called simply La Paz, is a town and a municipality in the Department of Cesar, Colombia. It is located near Valledupar, which is the capital city of the Cesar Department.
The municipality of La Paz shares its borders with several other places. To the north, it borders the La Guajira Department. To the northeast, it borders the municipality of Manaure. To the east, it shares a border with Venezuela, along the Serranía del Perijá mountain range. To the south, it borders Codazzi, and to the southwest, El Paso, Cesar, with the Magdalena River forming part of that border. To the west, it borders San Diego, and to the northwest, Valledupar.
The eastern part of La Paz, close to the Serranía del Perijá mountains, is home to the Yukpa indigenous people.
History of La Paz
The first people to live in the area that is now Los Robles La Paz were the Chimila indigenous groups. They lived in the flat lands of the Cesar River valley. The Yukpas, who lived in the Serranía del Perijá mountains, were also part of the Chimila group of tribes.
Spanish explorers arrived in this region in 1531. However, the Chimila people continued to control the area of Los Robles La Paz for many years. In 1700, a Spanish Captain named Salvador Felix de Arias was sent to make peace with the indigenous tribes. Captain Arias founded the town of Los Robles La Paz in that same year, 1700.
Working Towards Peace
In 2016, a special settlement was created near La Paz. This place was for former members of an armed group called FARC. They came to live there as part of a peace agreement in Colombia. This agreement aimed to help these individuals return to normal life and bring lasting peace to the country.
