Louis Lee Watson was an important person in American football. He was born on April 9, 1895. Watson worked as a football coach and also helped manage sports programs at colleges. Early Life and Playing Days
Louis Watson graduated from Howard University in 1917. After college, he played football himself. He played for Springfield College in Springfield, Massachusetts. This was during the 1919 and 1920 football seasons.
Coaching Success
Watson started his coaching career in 1921. His first job was as the head football coach at Virginia Normal. He coached there for two years, until 1922.
Coaching at Howard University
After Virginia Normal, Watson moved to Howard University. He coached the Howard Bison football team in 1923. He returned to Howard again from 1925 to 1927. During his time at Howard, he led the team to great success.
Winning Championships
Louis Watson's teams won three national championships for black colleges. These big wins happened in 1923, 1925, and 1926. This shows how skilled he was as a coach. Overall, his college coaching record was 29 wins, 8 losses, and 6 ties.
Coaching at Bordentown School
