Louis Pilot (born 11 November 1940 – died 16 April 2016) was a famous Luxembourgian football player and later a coach. He started his football journey at his hometown club, CS Fola Esch. When he was 20, he moved to Belgium to play for the team Standard Liège.

Louis Pilot: A Football Legend

Louis Pilot was a very important figure in Luxembourg football. He was known for his skill and dedication on the field. He played as a midfielder, which is a player who helps both in defense and attack.

Early Playing Days

Louis Pilot began playing football in 1953 with the youth team of CS Fola Esch. He played there until 1957. Then, from 1957 to 1961, he played for their main team. This was where he started to show his talent.

Success in Belgium

In 1961, Louis Pilot joined Standard Liège, a big club in Belgium. He played there for 11 years, from 1961 to 1972. During this time, he played in 337 games and scored 36 goals. This made him a well-known player in Belgian football. After Standard Liège, he played for Royal Antwerp FC from 1972 to 1975, playing 125 games and scoring 8 goals. His last club as a player was R. Jet Bruxelles, where he played from 1975 to 1978.

Playing for Luxembourg

Louis Pilot also proudly represented his home country, Luxembourg. He played for the national team from 1959 to 1971. He played in 49 international matches and scored 7 goals. He was a key player for his country during this time.

Becoming a Coach

After his playing career, Louis Pilot became a football coach. He coached the Luxembourg national team from 1978 to 1984. He also coached his former club, Standard Liège, from 1984 to 1985. Later, he coached FC Etzella Ettelbruck from 1985 to 1988 and again in 1990.

A Golden Player

In November 2003, the UEFA celebrated its 50th anniversary. To mark this special occasion, the Luxembourg Football Federation chose Louis Pilot as their "Golden Player". This award recognized him as the greatest player from Luxembourg in the last 50 years. It showed how much he was respected for his contributions to football.
