Louis de Brézé was an important French nobleman who lived a long time ago. He was the Lord of Anet and the Count of Maulevrier. Louis was the grandson of King Charles VII of France. His grandmother was Agnès Sorel. He passed away on July 23, 1531.

Louis's Family Background
Louis de Brézé was the son of Jacques de Brézé. His mother was Charlotte de Valois. Charlotte was one of King Charles VII's daughters. Louis's grandfather on his father's side was Pierre de Brézé. Pierre was famous for his bravery in the Battle of Formigny. He was also a very important manager in Normandy.
His Role at Court
Louis de Brézé held important positions in the French royal court. He was named the Sénéchal of Normandy. This was a high-ranking official role. He also became the Master of the Hunt. This meant he was in charge of royal hunting activities.
In 1523, Louis discovered a plan against King Francis I. He helped to reveal this plot to the king. At the time, Louis did not know that his father-in-law was involved. His father-in-law was Jean de Poitiers, Seigneur de Saint Vallier. Jean was sentenced to death for his part in the plot. However, the king later pardoned him.
His Homes and Castles
Louis's main family home was the Château d'Anet. This castle was located in a royal hunting area. It was in the valley of the Eure river. Louis also inherited another castle, the Château du Bec-Crespin.
Before he died, Louis supported a marriage between Prince Henry and Catherine de' Medici. Catherine was the Pope's great-niece. This marriage was very important for the future of France.
After Louis's death, his wife, Diane de Poitiers, became very influential. King Henry II rebuilt the old Château d'Anet for her. This new castle became one of the first French Renaissance châteaus. Diane was also given many responsibilities in managing the royal court.
Marriages and Children
Louis de Brézé was married twice. His first wife was Catherine de Dreux.
Later, he married Diane de Poitiers on March 29, 1515. Diane was 15 years old at the time. Louis was 39 years older than her.
Together, Louis and Diane had two daughters:
- Françoise de Brézé (born in 1518). She married Robert IV de La Marck.
- Louise de Brézé (born in 1521). She married Claude, Duke of Aumale.
Death and Memorial
Louis de Brézé passed away on July 23, 1531. Old records say that different parts of his body were buried in different places. His internal organs were buried at Anet. His heart was placed in the abbey of Coulombs. His body was taken to Notre Dame in Rouen. It was laid near his grandfather Pierre's tomb.
His widow, Diane, had a beautiful tomb built for Louis. This tomb is in the cathedral of Rouen. It was one of the first projects by the famous French Renaissance sculptor Jean Goujon.
