The Louise Michel Battalion was the name given to two groups of French-speaking volunteer soldiers. These soldiers joined the International Brigades during the Spanish Civil War. They fought against fascism, which is a type of government where one leader has total power and often uses force to control people. These battalions were named after Louise Michel, a brave woman who was a hero of the 1871 Paris Commune. The Paris Commune was a short-lived government set up by ordinary people in Paris, France.
