Lower Chehalis (also known as Łəw̓ál̕məš) was a language spoken by the Chehalis people in the United States. It belonged to a group of languages called the Salishan languages, specifically the Coast Salish languages family. This language was spoken in the area south of the Olympic Peninsula in Washington State. Sadly, the Lower Chehalis language became extinct in the 1990s, meaning there are no longer any native speakers.
Some experts who study languages believe that Lower Chehalis was more closely related to the Quinault language than it was to the Upper Chehalis language, even though their names are similar.
