Lowndes is a small place in eastern Wayne County, Missouri, United States. It is an unincorporated community. This means it's a group of homes and buildings that doesn't have its own local government, like a city or town would.
Lowndes is about 20 miles southwest of Marble Hill. You can find it along Missouri Route E. Two creeks flow near Lowndes: Bear Creek is to the north, and Barnes Creek is just east of the community.
A post office has been open in Lowndes since 1840. The community was named after Lowndes Henry Davis. He was a "congressman" from Missouri. A congressman is a person elected to represent the people of a certain area in the United States government.
