Biography

Luís Medina Barrón was born in Jerez de García Salinas, Zacatecas, Mexico. This happened on September 30, 1871. His parents were Urbano Medina and Josefa Barrón.

Early Military Career

Barrón started his military journey at age 17. He joined the infantry as a second lieutenant. For many years, he worked with the state's support forces. He joined Governor Rafael Izábal during the Yaqui Wars. These were conflicts against some Native American groups. He was promoted to major. He then took command of the 11th Rural Corps of the Federation.

Role in the Mexican Revolution

When the Mexican Revolution began, Barrón was active in the mountains of Chihuahua. He fought in places like Batopilas and Agua Prieta. Because of his actions, he was promoted to lieutenant colonel. Later, he led the 8th Rural Corps.

In 1911, he fought against the Zapatistas in Morelos. This was during the government of León de la Barra. In April 1913, he returned to Zacatecas. He was now a brigadier. He commanded a new group called the Rural Corps brigade. This group was formed to fight the Constitutionalist Revolution. It included soldiers and volunteers. His forces also fought in the battles of Santa Rosa and Santa María. The federal forces were defeated in these battles. Barrón was then promoted to Brigadier General.

Governor and Battle of Zacatecas

On February 20, 1914, Luís Medina Barrón became the governor of Zacatecas. In June of that year, he took part in the important Battle of Zacatecas. He was promoted to diversionary general. However, his forces were defeated by the División del Norte led by Pancho Villa. He sent a message to General Victoriano Huerta about the defeat. He wrote: "The Plaza de Zacatecas fell with blood and fire, annihilating the entire garrison." This meant his troops were completely destroyed.
