Early Life and Education

Lubomír Metnar began his career in public service. On October 1, 1987, he joined the Public Security force in Czechoslovakia. Three years later, he became an executive.

From March 1988 to February 1989, he worked in the Public Safety Emergency Regiment. He also attended the Secondary Police School of the Ministry of the Interior. This was from 1992 to 1993.

Political Career

Metnar was once a member of the BOS political party. He left this party when some members voted for the Czech Republic to leave NATO and the European Union. Metnar stated that he never supported leaving these important groups.

In November 2017, Metnar announced he would run for Minister of the Interior. This is a very important job in the government. On December 13, President Miloš Zeman appointed him to this role.

Minister of Defence Role

In June 2018, Andrej Babiš appointed Metnar to a new role. He became the Minister of Defence for the Czech Republic. At the same time, he resigned from his position as Minister of the Interior.

On September 29, 2020, Metnar joined other government members. They called for an end to the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict. This was a conflict between Armenia and Azerbaijan.

Becoming a Member of Parliament

In the 2021 Czech parliamentary election, Metnar ran as a candidate. He was not officially part of the ANO 2011 party, but they supported him. He ran in the Moravian-Silesian Region.

He received 6,481 votes from people who specifically chose him. Because of these votes, he became a Member of Parliament (MP). He continues to serve in this role.
