Luc De Vos (born July 12, 1962 – died November 29, 2014) was a well-known Belgian musician and writer. He was most famous as the lead singer of the Dutch-language alternative rock band called Gorki.

Luc De Vos also appeared as a guest on many television shows. He even lent his voice to the character of the VW bus in the Flemish version of the Disney movie Cars. He passed away in Ghent in 2014.

Early Life and Dreams

Luc De Vos was born in 1962 in a village called Wippelgem, near Ghent, Belgium. He was the youngest of seven children.

From a very young age, Luc knew what he wanted to be. He dreamed of becoming a rockstar. He later described this job as a special privilege, not just work.

In 1990, Luc De Vos's first band, Gorky, came in third place in a big music competition called Humo's Rock Rally. Along with another band, Noordkaap, they helped make Dutch language rock music very popular.

After Gorky broke up in 1993, Luc De Vos continued making music under a new name: Gorki. Another musician, Stijn Meuris, once described Gorki's songs as "Flemish poetry." He meant that the songs were deep and meaningful, even if the exact words were sometimes a bit mysterious.

Luc De Vos also worked on other music projects. He started an English language rock band called Automatic Buffalo. In 2010, he went on a solo tour, performing by himself.

With his bands Gorky and Gorki, Luc De Vos had many successful songs and albums. They had three singles and twelve albums that appeared on the Flemish music charts. Five of these albums even reached the top ten!

Writing Books and Columns

Besides music, Luc De Vos was also a talented writer. He wrote columns for a Flemish radio station called Studio Brussel. He also wrote for a city magazine in Ghent called Zone 09/.

Luc De Vos wrote several books too. His most recent book was titled Paddenkoppenland, which means Toadheadsland. Many people thought this book was about his own life, even though he said it wasn't.

His Passing

Luc De Vos was found in his apartment in Ghent on November 29, 2014. He passed away due to a sudden failure of his body's important organs. He left behind his wife and son.

A public funeral for Luc De Vos was held on December 6, 2014. It took place at Saint Peter's Church in Ghent. The church was completely full, and about 15,000 people gathered outside in the square to pay their respects. He was buried in the famous Catholic cemetery called Campo Santo.

Lasting Impact

Luc De Vos's most famous song is "Mia." Even though it was first released as a less important "B-side" song, it quickly became one of the most loved songs in Flanders. It also gained many fans in the Netherlands.

"Mia" has been voted the best song of all time on many radio station lists. For example, it reached the number one spot three years in a row on "De Tijdloze 100." This is a list of the best songs ever, chosen by listeners of Studio Brussel radio. The song "Mia" is so famous that it even gave its name to the MIA's, which are important music awards for Belgian artists.
