Lucapa is a town located in eastern Angola. It is also a municipality, which is like a local government area. In 2014, the town had about 110,000 people. The whole municipality had about 154,305 people.
Lucapa used to be the capital city of the Lunda Norte Province. For many years, it was hard to count how many people lived there. This was because a civil war in Angola caused many people to move around. After the war, people started to settle down again.
Economy in Lucapa
The main way people in Lucapa earn money is through mining. Mining means digging for valuable minerals from the ground.
Many thousands of people in Lucapa work in mining. They are employed by a special group called a "co-operative mining group." This group was created by two companies, SML and ITM Mining.
