Lucius Plantagenet Cary, 13th Viscount Falkland (born September 23, 1880 – died July 24, 1961) was an important Scottish nobleman. From 1886 to 1922, he was known as the Master of Falkland. Early Life and Education
Lucius Cary was the oldest son of Byron Cary, 12th Viscount Falkland and his wife, Mary. He went to two famous schools: Eton College and the Royal Military College, Sandhurst. These schools are well-known for preparing young people for important roles, especially in the military.
Military Career
Lucius Cary joined the British Army on December 6, 1899. He became an officer in the Grenadier Guards, a very old and respected part of the British Army. He served as a second lieutenant in the 2nd Battalion during the Second Boer War, a conflict in South Africa.
After that, he was promoted to lieutenant in 1903. From 1903 to 1905, he worked with the 3rd King's African Rifles in Nairobi, which is now the capital of Kenya. He was promoted to captain in 1908 but left the army in 1910.
Family Life
On April 6, 1904, Lucius Cary married Ella Louise Catford. They had five children together:

Public Service and World War I
Before World War I, Lucius Cary worked as a Deputy Governor at Wandsworth Prison. When World War I began in 1914, he returned to the Grenadier Guards as a captain. He served throughout the war.
After the war, he was recognized for his efforts. On January 1, 1919, he was given the honorary rank of major. On June 3, 1919, he was made an Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE) for his important service during the war.
Becoming a Viscount
In 1922, Lucius Cary's father passed away. This meant Lucius became the 13th Viscount Falkland. A Viscount is a title of nobility, ranking below an Earl and above a Baron.
As a Scottish peer, he was chosen to represent Scotland in the House of Lords in the British Parliament. He served in this role until 1931.
Lucius Cary passed away in 1961. His oldest son, Lucius Cary, 14th Viscount Falkland, then became the 14th Viscount Falkland.
