Luck Lake is a small freshwater lake located in the northern part of Highlands County, Florida. Freshwater means its water is not salty, like the ocean. Another lake, Deer Lake, is found just to its southeast.
About Luck Lake
Luck Lake seems to be a natural lake. However, it has been changed by people. It was "dredged," which means its bottom was dug out. This made the lake look like a horseshoe shape.
Size and Depth
The Florida Atlas of Lakes says Luck Lake covers about 2.15 acres. An acre is a measurement of land area. This lake is very shallow. During a serious drought (a long time with very little rain) from 2006 to 2009, parts of the lake's bottom could be seen because the water level was so low.
Other Names
You might also hear Luck Lake called Lake Duck. This name appears on some maps and on the Lakes of Highlands County website.
Who Owns Luck Lake?
Luck Lake is owned by an organization called Orange Blossom Fellowship. This group has a church right next to the lake, on the east side of County Road 17A.
Most of the land owned by Orange Blossom Fellowship is used for a park. This park is for mobile homes and RVs. These are homes or vehicles that people can live in.
What You Can Do at the Lake
Luck Lake has a fountain in its southeast corner. Because the lake is small, you cannot use boats on it. There are five docks for fishing, but they are not open for everyone to use. Also, swimming is not allowed in Luck Lake.
