Luigi Mastrangelo, often called Gigi, is a famous Italian volleyball player. He was born on August 17, 1975. He played for the Italian national team from 1999 to 2012. Gigi won many medals with his national team. These include silver and bronze medals at the Olympic Games. He also won the European Championship and the World League multiple times. He was a very important player for the Italian team.

Playing for Clubs

Luigi Mastrangelo played for many different volleyball clubs in Italy. He started his professional career in 1994.

Early Club Years

  • He played for Cuneo VBC in 1994-1995.
  • Then he moved to VBC Mondovì for the 1995-1996 season.
  • After that, he played for PV Sant'Antioco in 1996-1997.
  • He returned to Piemonte Volley and played there from 1997 to 2002.

Later Club Years

  • From 2002 to 2005, Gigi played for Lube Banca Macerata.
  • He then joined Pallavolo Modena for the 2005-2006 season.
  • From 2006 to 2008, he was part of M. Roma Volley.
  • He played for Martina Franca Volley in 2008-2009.
  • Finally, he returned to Bre Banca Lannutti Cuneo from 2009 until he retired in 2014.

Individual Awards

  • 1999: He was named the Best Server at the FIVB World League.
  • 2001: He was again the Best Server at the FIVB World League.
  • 2003: He won the Best Blocker award at the CEV European Championship.
  • 2004: He was the Best Blocker at the FIVB World League.
  • 2005: He received the Best Blocker award again at the CEV European Championship.
  • 2008: He was recognized as both the Best Blocker and Best Server at the CEV Cup.
  • 2009: Volleyit Magazine named him the Player of the Year in Italy.
  • 2011: He was the Best Blocker at the Memorial of Hubert Jerzy Wagner tournament.

Special Honors
