Luke Albert Combs (born March 2, 1990) is an American country singer and songwriter. He was born and grew up in North Carolina. Luke started performing music when he was a child.
He left college to follow his dream of becoming a musician. He moved to Nashville, Tennessee, a big city for country music. In 2014, he released his first collection of songs, called an EP, titled The Way She Rides.
In 2017, Luke released his first full album, This One's for You. It quickly became very popular, reaching number four on the Billboard 200 chart. His second album, What You See Is What You Get, came out in 2019. This album became number one in many places around the world.
Luke Combs has won many important awards for his music. These include two iHeart Radio Music Awards, four Academy of Country Music Awards, and six Country Music Association Awards. He won the top honor, Entertainer of the Year, in both 2021 and 2022.

Early Life and Music Beginnings
Luke Combs was born in Huntersville, North Carolina. He is the only child of Rhonda and Chester Combs. Later, his family moved to Asheville, North Carolina.
As a kid, Luke loved to sing. He was in his school's chorus class and performed in many school plays. He also joined his church choir, and they even got to sing at Carnegie Hall once.
Luke went to Appalachian State University. While there, he worked as a bouncer at a bar. Soon, he started performing his own music at that same bar. He played his first country music show in Boone. After five years of college, with only a few classes left, he decided to leave school. He moved to Nashville, Tennessee, to focus completely on his country music career.
Music Career Highlights
2014–2019: First Albums and Hit Songs
Luke Combs released his first EP, The Way She Rides, in February 2014. Later that year, he released another EP called Can I Get an Outlaw. In November 2015, he put out his third EP, This One's for You.
In 2016, his song "Hurricane" sold 15,000 copies in its first week. This helped him get a record deal with Sony Music Nashville. "Hurricane" was then re-released and became a number one hit on country radio in May 2017.
In June 2017, Luke released his first major album, also called This One's for You. It quickly reached number one on the Billboard Top Country Albums chart. Other songs from this album, like "When It Rains It Pours" and "One Number Away", also became number one hits.
In 2018, he released a special version of the album with five new songs. Two of these, "She Got the Best of Me" and "Beautiful Crazy", also reached number one. "Beautiful Crazy" was his fifth number one hit in a row, which was a big achievement.
2019–2021: Continued Success and New Records
On June 11, 2019, Luke Combs was invited to become a member of the Grand Ole Opry. This is a very special honor for country music artists.
In August 2019, his album This One's for You spent 44 weeks at number one on the Top Country Albums chart. This set a new record for a male artist. His second album, What You See Is What You Get, came out on November 8, 2019. This album had many number one songs, including "Beer Never Broke My Heart" and "Even Though I'm Leaving". It also featured "Does to Me", a duet with fellow country star Eric Church.
In May 2020, he released the song "Six Feet Apart". This song became very popular because it talked about the challenges people faced during the COVID-19 pandemic. Later that year, he released a deluxe version of his second album with five new songs. One of these, "Forever After All", broke streaming records for country music on services like Apple Music and Spotify.
2022–Present: New Albums and Collaborations
Luke's third album, Growin' Up, was released on June 24, 2022. It included hit songs like "Doin' This" and "The Kind of Love We Make". "The Kind of Love We Make" reached number one on the country chart and also made it to number eight on the main Hot 100 chart.
In May 2023, Luke worked with English singer Ed Sheeran on a song called "Life Goes On".
His fourth album, Gettin' Old, was released on March 24, 2023. A song from this album, his cover of Tracy Chapman's "Fast Car", became incredibly popular. It was streamed over 65 million times on Spotify in less than two months. Luke's version of "Fast Car" reached number two on the Billboard Hot 100 chart, which was even higher than Tracy Chapman's original version from 1988. This song won him the Single of the Year in November 2023. In February 2024, Luke performed "Fast Car" as a duet with Tracy Chapman herself at the 66th Annual Grammy Awards. Luke has said that "Fast Car" was his favorite song when he was a child.
In May 2024, Luke released "Ain't No Love in Oklahoma" for the Twisters movie soundtrack. On June 6, 2024, he announced his fifth album, Fathers & Sons, which was released on June 14, 2024.
Luke Combs and Eric Church organized a special concert called "Concert for Carolina" on October 26, 2024. This event raised over $24 million to help people affected by Hurricane Helene.
Personal Life
Luke Combs began dating Nicole Hocking in early 2016. They got engaged in November 2018 and were married in Florida on August 1, 2020. They have two sons. Their first son was born on June 19, 2022, and their second son was born on August 15, 2023.
Luke has shared that he has dealt with anxiety and primarily obsessional obsessive compulsive disorder since he was a teenager. He has learned to manage these thoughts better over time.
In 2023, there was a misunderstanding where Luke Combs's team took legal action against a fan who was selling items with his image. Luke later apologized to the fan, sent her money, and offered to help her sell her items through his official store.
