Luke Albert Combs (born March 2, 1990) is a popular American country singer and songwriter. He was born and raised in North Carolina, where he started performing music when he was young. After college, he decided to follow his dream of becoming a musician. He moved to Nashville and released his first collection of songs, called an EP, titled The Way She Rides, in 2014.

Luke Combs has released several successful albums. His first album, This One's for You, came out in 2017 and was very popular. His second album, What You See Is What You Get, released in 2019, even topped music charts in many places. He has won many important awards, including six Country Music Association Awards, and was named Entertainer of the Year in both 2021 and 2022. He has also been nominated for three Grammy Awards.

Early Life and Music Dreams

Luke Combs was born in Huntersville, North Carolina, on March 2, 1990. He is the only child of Rhonda and Chester Combs. His family later moved to Asheville, North Carolina. From a young age, Luke loved music. He sang in his school chorus and performed in school plays. He also joined his church choir, which even got to sing at the famous Carnegie Hall.

Luke went to Appalachian State University. He first studied business, then changed to criminal justice. He even worked as a bouncer at a bar. While in college, he decided to pursue music. His mother encouraged him to learn guitar, so he taught himself. He played his very first country music show in Boone, North Carolina. After five years of college, he left to focus completely on his music career. Soon after, he moved to Nashville, a city famous for country music, to find more opportunities.

Early Success with This One's For You (2014–2019)

Luke Combs started his music career by releasing several EPs. His first one, The Way She Rides, came out in February 2014. He released two more EPs, Can I Get an Outlaw and This One's for You, in the following years. In 2016, his song "Hurricane" became very popular. It sold many copies and quickly climbed the music charts.

After this success, Luke signed with Sony Music Nashville. "Hurricane" was re-released and became a number one hit on country radio in May 2017. In June 2017, he released his first big album, also called This One's for You. This album was a huge hit, reaching the top of the country album charts. More songs from the album, like "When It Rains It Pours" and "Beautiful Crazy", also became number one hits. By February 2019, Luke had five number one songs from his first album!

Chart-Topping Albums: What You See Is What You Get (2019–2021)

Luke Combs was invited to join the famous Grand Ole Opry in June 2019. His first album, This One's for You, spent a record-breaking 44 weeks at number one on the country album charts. His second album, What You See Is What You Get, was released in November 2019. This album also had many number one songs, including "Beer Never Broke My Heart" and "Lovin' on You".

In May 2020, Luke released "Six Feet Apart". This song quickly became popular because it talked about the challenges people faced during the COVID-19 pandemic. He later released a special version of What You See Is What You Get with five new songs. One of these, "Forever After All", broke streaming records for country music.

New Music: Growin' Up and Gettin' Old (2022–2023)

Luke's third album, Growin' Up, came out in June 2022. It featured hit songs like "The Kind of Love We Make". In May 2023, he worked with English singer Ed Sheeran on the song "Life Goes On".

His fourth album, Gettin' Old, was released in March 2023. A very popular song from this album was his cover of Tracy Chapman's "Fast Car". Luke's version of "Fast Car" became a massive hit, reaching number two on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. It also topped several country music charts. He even performed "Fast Car" with Tracy Chapman herself at the 66th Annual Grammy Awards in February 2024. Luke has said that "Fast Car" was his favorite song since he was a child.

Latest Projects: Fathers & Sons (2024–Present)

In May 2024, Luke Combs released "Ain't No Love in Oklahoma" for the Twisters movie soundtrack. He then announced his fifth album, Fathers & Sons, which was released on June 14, 2024. A song from this album, "The Man He Sees in Me", was released earlier in June 2024.

Luke and fellow artist Eric Church organized a special event called "Concert for Carolina" on October 26, 2024. This concert raised over $24 million to help people affected by Hurricane Helene. Luke also co-owns a company called Blue Otter Polarized, which sells sunglasses and hats. In late 2025, Luke released a new song called "Giving Her Away".

Luke Combs' Family Life

Luke Combs started dating Nicole Hocking in early 2016. They got engaged in November 2018 and married in Florida on August 1, 2020. They have three sons. Their first son was born on June 19, 2022. Their second son arrived on August 15, 2023. Their third son was born on February 19, 2026.

Luke has shared that he faced some personal challenges with worries and strong thoughts during his teenage and college years. He has learned to manage these feelings better over time.
