The Lulu's tody-flycatcher (Poecilotriccus luluae) is a small, colorful bird. It belongs to the Tyrannidae family, which includes many types of flycatchers. This special bird lives only in a specific part of Peru.
It's also known as Johnson's tody-flycatcher. Its name has changed a few times since it was first discovered! Because it's found in such a small area and its home is disappearing, it's considered an endangered bird.

About This Unique Bird
Lulu's tody-flycatcher is a very interesting bird. It's quite small, like many birds in the flycatcher family. These birds are known for catching insects in the air.
Why Its Name Changed
When this bird was first described in 2001, it was called Lulu's tody-tyrant. Later, after one of the scientists who described it, Ned K. Johnson, passed away, its name was changed to Johnson's tody-tyrant to honor him.
Even more recently, scientists moved this bird into a different group, or genus, called Poecilotriccus. Before, it was in the Todirostrum genus. Because of this change, experts suggested calling it a "tody-flycatcher" instead of a "tody-tyrant." This helps show its new scientific grouping.
Where Lulu's Tody-Flycatcher Lives
This bird is endemic to northern Peru. This means it lives naturally only in this one place in the world. You can find it in the highlands of the Amazonas and San Martín areas.
It prefers to live in humid, thick bushes and plants. It especially likes areas where bamboo grows. These specific habitats are very important for its survival.
Why It's Endangered
Sadly, Lulu's tody-flycatcher is an endangered species. The main reason for this is habitat loss. Its natural home is being destroyed or changed by human activities.
Organizations like BirdLife International and IUCN keep track of endangered species. They have listed Lulu's tody-flycatcher as "Endangered" because its population is very small and its habitat is shrinking. Protecting its home is key to helping this unique bird survive.
