Lundbreck is a small community called a hamlet in southern Alberta, Canada. It is located within the Municipal District of Pincher Creek No. 9. You can find it on the south side of Highway 3.
Lundbreck is about 3 kilometres (1.9 miles) east of where Highway 22 ends. It's also 16 kilometres (9.9 miles) east of Crowsnest Pass. The community sits about 1,200 metres (3,900 feet) above sea level. It is part of Census Division No. 3.
History of Lundbreck
Lundbreck was officially recognized as a community in 1907. It celebrated its 100th birthday in 2007. The hamlet was named after two coal miners, Mr. Lund and Mr. Breckenridge.
Lundbreck began as a town focused on coal mining. It grew quickly, reaching a population of about 1,000 people. However, when the coal mines closed, the town's population quickly became much smaller.
Population Changes
In the 2021 Census, Lundbreck had a population of 289 people. These residents lived in 134 of the 145 homes available. This was an increase from its 2016 population of 236 people.
Lundbreck covers a land area of 0.42 square kilometres (0.16 square miles). This means that in 2021, there were about 690 people living per square kilometre.
Education in Lundbreck
Livingstone School is a school in Lundbreck that teaches students from kindergarten to grade 12. It was built in 1955. This school was a modern change from the older system.
Before Livingstone School, students attended several small, one-room schools in rural areas. Now, children from nearby Cowley and the northwest part of the Municipal District of Pincher Creek No. 9 are bused to Livingstone School.
