Lurrie Bell (born Lurrie C. Bell on December 13, 1958) is an American blues guitarist and singer. He was born in Chicago, Illinois, in the United States. His father was the well-known blues harmonica player, Carey Bell. Lurrie grew up surrounded by music and became a talented blues musician himself.

Lurrie Bell's Musical Journey

Lurrie Bell started playing the guitar when he was just six years old. As a teenager, he improved his skills by playing with famous musicians from the Chicago blues scene. These included legends like Eddy Clearwater, Big Walter Horton, and Eddie Taylor.

In the mid-1970s, Lurrie joined Koko Taylor's band, the Blues Machine. He toured with them for four years, playing many shows. He made his first recordings in 1977. He appeared on his father's album, Heartaches and Pain, and also on Eddie C. Campbell's King of the Jungle. Around this time, he also formed a band called The Sons of Blues. They had three songs featured on a special album called Living Chicago Blues Vol. 3 in 1978. In 1989, Lurrie released his first solo album, Everybody Wants To Win.

Lurrie made a strong return to music in 1995 with his album Mercurial Son. This was the first of several successful albums he released with the Delmark record company. After this, he started performing more often in Chicago's blues clubs and at blues festivals.

In 2007, Lurrie Bell released a CD and DVD called Gettin' Up. This recording featured him playing with his father, Carey Bell, at famous blues clubs. Sadly, his father passed away in May 2007, making this their last recorded work together.

Lurrie has received many awards for his music. In 2014, he won a Blues Music Award for his song "Blues in My Soul." He was also nominated for awards in four other groups that year. In 2015, he won another Blues Music Award, this time for 'Traditional Blues Male Artist'.

His 2016 album, Can't Shake This Feeling, was nominated for a Grammy Award for Best Traditional Blues Album. This is a very big honor in the music world! The harmonica player Matthew Skoller played a lot on this album. Matthew also produced some of Lurrie's earlier albums, like Let's Talk About Love and The Devil Ain't Got No Music.

In 2024, Lurrie Bell was added to the Blues Foundation's Blues Hall of Fame. This means he is recognized as one of the most important blues musicians ever.
