Lush! facts for kids

Lush! is a famous music venue located in Portrush, County Antrim, Northern Ireland. It's a place where people go to listen to loud music, dance, and enjoy live performances by DJs.

Lush! is part of the Kellys Golf Links Hotel complex. It opened its doors in 1996 and quickly became known for hosting some of the biggest names in electronic dance music. Many famous DJs from around the world have played there.

A Place for Music and Dance

Lush! is open two nights a week. On Saturdays, people from all over Ireland come to enjoy the music. Wednesdays are usually for students from the University of Ulster who live nearby. The club has its own team that organizes everything, so they don't need outside help.

The manager of Lush!, Col Hamilton, is also one of the main DJs who plays there regularly. Another local DJ, Gordy Annett, also plays often. When these resident DJs are playing, you'll mostly hear house music. However, when guest DJs visit, they often play trance music.

Music Inspired by Lush!

Soon after Lush! opened, two musicians named CJ Agnelli and Col Hamilton created a song called "Lush." This song, and later remixes like "Lush Gold," helped make the club even more famous. The cover art for these songs even showed the club's logo, which is a big yellow and orange circle. Another music series called "Live As" by Discover Records also recorded a show at Lush!.

Lush! in the World Rankings

The magazine DJ Mag often lists the top 100 clubs in the world. Lush! has been on this list several times. In 2006, it was ranked number 24. In 2008, it was number 56. By 2010, when the public started voting, Lush! was ranked number 48 in the world!

Broadcasting Live from Lush!

In the late 1990s and early 2000s, Lush! was sometimes broadcast live on BBC Radio 1. This meant people across the UK and even the world could listen to the music and atmosphere from the club. Popular shows like the Essential Mix, Seb Fontaine, and Judge Jules were broadcast from Lush!.

One time, DJ Fergie broadcast his final BBC Radio 1 show live from a pub in the same complex. After that, his DJ set at Lush! was broadcast live on the Essential Mix. DJ Seb Fontaine once said that Lush! was one of the best clubs on the planet. He felt its atmosphere was unmatched anywhere else he had ever played.
