Luthern is a small town, also called a municipality, located in Switzerland. It's part of the Willisau district in the canton of Lucerne.

Luthern is quite an old place! The first time it was ever written about was in the year 1275. Back then, its name was spelled Lutrun.

Luthern covers an area of about 37.9 square kilometers (about 14.6 square miles). A large part of this land is used for farming, about 47.8%. Almost the same amount, 47.6%, is covered by forests.
Only a small portion, 3.5%, has buildings or roads. The rest, about 1.1%, is made up of rivers or other natural areas.
This municipality is found in the upper Luthern valley. This valley is located in the northern part of the Napfgebiet region. Luthern includes the main village of Luthern. It also has smaller areas called hamlets, like Luthernbad, Hofstatt, and Flühlen. You'll also find many scattered farmhouses throughout the area.
