What Happens in the Story?
The story takes place right after Christmas. Alfons and his father feel a bit bored because the holidays are over. Alfons' friend Viktor is sick, so they cannot play together.
Alfons' Grandmother Visits
Alfons' grandmother, from his mother's side, comes to visit. She tells Alfons that it is good to be bored sometimes. She says it helps you wait for something fun to happen. She also helps to take down all the Christmas decorations.
A Surprise Visitor
Suddenly, Viktor shows up! He is no longer sick and can play with Alfons again. They do not have a traditional Knut's dance. Instead, they throw the Christmas tree out from the balcony. It lands softly on the snow-covered ground below.
