Alfie Atkins (called Alfons Åberg in Swedish) is a super popular character from books and cartoons. He was created by a Swedish author named Gunilla Bergström way back in 1972.
Alfie is just like a normal kid. He lives with his dad and goes on everyday adventures. When he was younger, he had an imaginary friend named Malcolm. Only Alfie could see Malcolm! Later, Alfie made real friends like Milla and Victor. He also has a cute housecat named Puzzle.

In the Alfie Atkins books, you'll find stories about things that happen to all kids. Alfie often tries to act grown-up. He sometimes even competes with his dad to see who can do things best!
Alfie's dad is a kind and cheerful person. You don't see many women in the stories. Alfie has an aunt named Fifi and a grandmother, but his mother isn't in the books.
The First Alfie Book
The very first book about Alfie was called Goodnight, Alfie Atkins. It came out in 1972. Since then, there have been 24 main books in the series. There are also seven other Alfie books made for even younger children.
These books are super popular around the world! They have been translated into 29 different languages. Gunilla Bergström wrote and drew all the pictures for the books herself.

Early Cartoons
In the late 1970s, a cartoon series was made based on the books. Per Åhlin was the main director. The music was created by Georg Riedel. These shows were made by a company called PennFilm. They worked with the Swedish Film Institute and TV channels in the Nordic countries like SVT, NRK, DR, and YLE.
Between 1979 and 1982, 13 episodes were made. Each one was about 10 minutes long. Later, in 1994, three more short cartoons were produced.
New Movies and TV Shows
In 2013, a Norwegian director named Torill Kove made a full-length movie about Alfie. It was called Hocus Pocus Alfie Atkins. The movie was based on one of the books but had extra parts added to make it longer. After the movie, a new TV series with 13 episodes was also created.
