History of Lynfred Winery
Lynfred Winery was started on October 14, 1979. Fred and Lynn Koehler were the founders. They began their business in a restored house from 1912. In 1975, they started selling their special grape drinks. These drinks were made from grapes grown in California.
Early Success and Growth
In 1985, one of their drinks won a "Double Gold" award. This happened at the National Restaurant Show in Chicago. It also won an award at a competition in Reno, Nevada. Because their drinks were so popular, Lynfred needed more space. In 1990, they opened a new building. This new building allowed them to make almost 100,000 US gallons (380,000 L; 83,000 imp gal) of their special grape drinks each year.
Expanding Locations
Lynfred Winery started opening more places for people to visit. In 1999, they opened a satellite store called Tasting deVine. This store was in Wheaton. A second location opened in Naperville in 2004. Later, in 2008, a tasting room opened in Wheeling. Since 2002, Lynfred has also offered a bed and breakfast at their first location. This means visitors can stay overnight.
