Emmalyn Paulette Moody (born February 17, 1945), known as Lynne Moody, is an American actress. She has starred in many films and TV shows. Lynne Moody is famous for her roles as Tracy Curtis–Taylor in the TV show That's My Mama (1974–1975). She also played Irene Harvey in the mini-series Roots (1977) and Roots: The Next Generations (1979). Another well-known role was Patricia Williams in Knots Landing (1988–1990).

Early Life and School

Lynne Moody was born in Detroit, Michigan. She grew up in Evanston, Illinois, which is a suburb north of Chicago. Her mother was a social worker, and her father was a doctor.

Lynne went to Evanston Township High School and finished in 1963. Before she became an actress, she worked as a flight attendant. Later, she moved to Los Angeles to start her acting career.

Acting Career

Lynne Moody studied acting at the Pasadena Playhouse. In 1973, she got her first acting job in the horror film Scream Blacula Scream. She also played Jenny Willis in an episode of All in the Family in 1974. However, another actress took over the role when the show The Jeffersons started in 1975.

In 1974, Moody got the role of Tracy Curtis-Taylor in the TV show That's My Mama. She was in the first season of the show. She later left the show because, as her manager said, "she didn't like the part anymore." After That's My Mama, she starred in a TV movie called Nightmare in Badham County in 1976.

A very important role for Moody was Irene Harvey in the TV mini-series Roots in 1977. She played this role again in Roots: The Next Generations in 1979. From 1979 to 1980, she was Polly Dawson in the TV show Soap. She also had roles as Patricia Williams in Knots Landing and Nurse Julie Williams in E/R. In 2000, she appeared on the daytime drama General Hospital as Florence Campbell.

Other Activities

In the 1990s, Lynne Moody helped with public radio messages for Africare. This group works to improve the lives of people in Africa. She worked on these messages with other actors from Roots, like Georg Stanford Brown and Louis Gossett Jr..

Personal Life

Lynne Moody has a daughter named Lisa Wright. For many years, Moody searched for her daughter. She even asked Alex Haley, the author of Roots, for help. Lisa found Moody by using a DNA test and with help from Moody's brother. They were happily reunited.
