Georg Stanford Brown (born June 24, 1943) is an American actor and director. He is perhaps best known for playing Officer Terry Webster in the TV show The Rookies from 1972 to 1976. He also directed many TV episodes and won an Emmy Award for his work.

Growing Up and School
Georg Stanford Brown was born in Havana, Cuba, on June 24, 1943. His family moved from Cuba to Harlem, New York, when he was seven years old.
When he was 15, Georg started a singing group called 'The Parthenons'. They even appeared on TV once! At 16, he left high school and moved to Los Angeles.
After a few years, he decided to go back to school. He passed his college entrance exam and went to Los Angeles City College. He studied Theater Arts there and really enjoyed it. Later, he moved back to New York to attend the American Musical and Dramatic Academy. He worked as a school janitor to pay for his classes.
Starting His Acting Journey
Georg Stanford Brown says he "fell into" acting. Just six months after finishing school, he performed in the New York Shakespeare Festival. This festival is now known as Shakespeare in the Park.
Next, he appeared in the movie The Comedians (1967). In this film, he acted alongside famous stars like Richard Burton and Elizabeth Taylor. His acting work then took him to Africa and Paris. While in Southern France, he met Alex Haley, who was working on a story that later became the famous TV miniseries Roots.
His Career in Film and TV
During the 1960s, Georg Stanford Brown acted in several films. These included Dayton's Devils (1968) and Bullitt (1968). In the 1970s, he appeared in movies like Colossus: The Forbin Project (1970) and The Man (1972).
One of his most famous roles was Officer Terry Webster in the TV show The Rookies. He starred in this police series from 1972 to 1976.
Playing Tom Harvey in Roots
In 1977, Georg Stanford Brown played Tom Harvey in the important TV miniseries Roots. This role was very special because Tom Harvey was the son of Chicken George and a great-grandson of Kunta Kinte. He also appeared in the follow-up series, Roots: The Next Generations, in 1979.
Later Roles and Directing
In 1980, he starred in the TV movie The Night the City Screamed. He also acted in the comedy movie Stir Crazy with Gene Wilder and Richard Pryor. In 1984, he played Lew Gilbert in the TV movie The Jesse Owens Story. He then had a supporting role in the miniseries North & South in 1985.
Georg Stanford Brown is also a talented director. In 1986, he won a Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Directing for a Drama Series. He won this award for directing the final episode of season 5 of the show Cagney & Lacey. He also directed episodes of other popular TV shows like Hill Street Blues.
More recently, he had a recurring role on the TV drama series Nip/Tuck.
Family Life
Georg Stanford Brown met his ex-wife, actress Tyne Daly, when they were both studying acting. They were married for 24 years, from 1966 to 1990. They have three daughters together.
