Martin Lyriq Bent was born in Kingston, Jamaica. When he was six years old, his family moved to Toronto, Ontario, Canada.

Lyriq Bent started his acting career in the early 2000s. Since then, he has appeared in many lead and supporting roles in both movies and television shows.
Before getting a main role in the drama series Angela's Eyes, he was a guest star on the UPN series Kevin Hill alongside Taye Diggs. He also appeared on USA Network's Kojak with Ving Rhames. After being in several TV shows, Playback Magazine recognized him as one of Canada's top rising stars.

Lyriq Bent gained more attention for his roles in the horror films Saw II and Saw III, where he played Officer Daniel Rigg. He later starred as one of the main characters in Saw IV.
He has also appeared in other films like Four Brothers (2005), Take the Lead (2006), and Home Again (2012). More recently, he starred in movies such as Acrimony (2018) and Nappily Ever After (2018). In 2019, he was in Astronaut.
