Lyubka Vasileva Rondova (Bulgarian: Любка Василева Рондова), also known as Ljubka Rondova or Lubka Rondova, was a very famous Bulgarian folk singer. She was best known for performing and recording many traditional songs from the Macedonia region. Her beautiful voice helped keep old folk songs alive for new generations.
Her Early Life and Journey
Lyubka Rondova was born in a village called Sidirochori in Greece in 1936. When she was about 12 years old, she had to leave her home. She became a child refugee and moved to Poland. Later, she moved to Czechoslovakia. There, she studied at a famous school called Charles University in Prague. She learned about Slavic languages and cultures. In 1960, Lyubka and her family finally settled in Bulgaria.
A Voice for Folk Music
Lyubka Rondova had a special talent for singing. She was invited to join a well-known song and dance group called "Gotse Delchev" in Sofia, Bulgaria. She became the main singer, or soloist, for this group. Lyubka sang with them for 30 years! Through her performances, she shared the rich musical traditions of the Macedonia region with many people. She helped preserve these important folk songs.
Recognitions and Legacy
Lyubka Rondova's amazing contributions to music were recognized by her country. In 2002, she received the highest Bulgarian award, called the Stara planina, First Degree. This award is given to people who have done great things for Bulgaria. Lyubka Rondova passed away on March 15, 2016, but her songs and her legacy continue to inspire many.
