She was also a lawyer for the Anti-Corruption Foundation, an organization that worked to expose corruption.

Early Life and Education

Lyubov Sobol was born on 13 September 1987 in Lobnya, a town in Moscow Oblast, Russia. She was a very good student and graduated from high school in 2004 with a silver medal. After high school, she went to the Institute of Jurisprudence of the State Law Academy in Moscow to study law.

Politics and Activism

Early Political Involvement

From 2011 to 2012, Lyubov Sobol became very active in Russian politics. She joined protests and helped as a volunteer in different cities. She also worked as an observer during elections to make sure they were fair.

In March 2011, she started working as a lawyer for the RosPil Project. This project was created by Alexei Navalny, another well-known opposition figure. The goal of RosPil was to fight against corruption, especially when it came to how the government spent money.

In 2011, the Russian edition of Forbes magazine recognized Lyubov Sobol. They put her in seventh place on their list of "faces few know," meaning she was becoming influential even though many people didn't know her yet. In October 2012, she was chosen to be part of the Russian Opposition Coordination Council. This was a group of people who worked together to represent the opposition in Russia. She received many votes, showing that people supported her.

Running for Office

In March 2016, Lyubov Sobol announced that she wanted to run for a seat in the State Duma, which is like Russia's parliament. She planned to run in Moscow, but she later decided not to continue her campaign in May.

In May 2018, she joined the Central Council of Alexei Navalny's political party, Russia of the Future. In 2019, she tried again to run for election, this time for the Moscow City Duma. During this time, she was detained by police after a protest in Moscow.

Later, Russian authorities searched her home and detained her again. She has stated that these actions were politically motivated.

In August 2021, she was found guilty of breaking rules related to COVID-19 restrictions and was given a sentence that limited her freedom for a year and a half.
