M&D's Scotland's Theme Park is a fun amusement park located in Motherwell, North Lanarkshire, Scotland. It's right next to Strathclyde Park. The park has four roller coasters, two water rides, and many other fairground rides.
You can also find an arcade, a theatre, ten-pin bowling, and an indoor tropical house called Amazonia here. In 2018, the local council approved plans for the park to grow. This included a new roller coaster and a bigger hotel.
The park temporarily closed on April 23, 2020, but later reopened. As of December 27, 2020, it is closed again due to the Covid-19 pandemic. However, The Alona Hotel is still open for essential workers. You can also get takeaway food from their food court.

Exciting Attractions at M&D's
M&D's Theme Park says it has over 40 rides and attractions. This includes four roller coasters and a log flume. There are also many fairground rides and some special rides for younger kids. Most of these rides are owned by the park's operators, Matthew and Douglas Taylor.
Roller Coasters
- Mad Mouse: This spinning roller coaster opened in 2016. It spins you around as you go!
- Big Apple: This is a roller coaster for children. It used to go through a big apple made of fiberglass.
- Runaway Mine Train: Another roller coaster for kids. Before 2007, its cars spun around. It also had a different way of going up the hill. Now, it has a regular train and a chain lift.
Thrill Rides
- Wave Swinger: This ride has 32 seats that swing you high in the air.
- Captain's Curse: This is a pirate ship themed ride. It was away for repairs in 2007–2008.
- Magic Carpet: Also known as "Ali Baba's Carpet," this ride can hold up to 40 people. It goes up 14 meters and spins at 14 rotations per minute. The seats stay facing forward as you go up and down in a loop. A newer version of this ride arrived in 2017.
- The Giant Condor: This is the only ride of its kind in Europe. Riders go up 30 meters in 28 gondolas, each holding two people. It first appeared in 2015, replacing The Bomber Mark 2.
- Fast & Furious: This thrill ride replaced the Flying Carpet at the start of the 2020/21 season.
Water Rides
- Moby's Revenge: This ride has three water slides in one. The slide on the right is a steep, straight drop. The one on the left is a winding spiral slide. The middle path is a straight slide, but it's not as steep and has some "waves."
- White Water: This is a log flume with two drops, up to 20 meters high. It's the tallest water ride in the park. You can reach speeds of up to 70 kilometers per hour! You can even buy souvenir photos at the end of the ride.
Junior Rides and Attractions
- Trampolines: There are 10 trampoline beds. Each session lasts about 5 minutes.
- Mini Dodgems: A smaller version of the classic bumper cars.
- Other small rides include "Taxis," "Sea Storm," and "Flying Jumbos."
Past Rides
- Kamikaze: This ride was replaced by The Runaway Mine Train.
- The Bomber Mark 2: This ride was replaced by The Giant Condor.
- Space Coaster: This roller coaster left after the 2015 season. It was later set up at Oakwood Theme Park in July 2016.
- Tsunami: This was Scotland's only inverted roller coaster. It worked well until 2016 when it came off its track and fell 20 feet. It was removed in 2017.
- Tornado: This was the park's largest roller coaster. It had over 1 kilometer of track and two 360-degree vertical loops. It could reach speeds over 80 kilometers per hour. A part of the track called a corkscrew was removed in 2005 because it was too rough. In November 2020, M&D's sold the Tornado to a French showman.
Other Fun Attractions
- Amazonia: This is Scotland's only indoor rainforest! It's home to amazing animals like poison dart frogs, tarantulas, and pythons.
- Devil's Island: An 18-hole miniature golf course. You play over water and inside caves!
- Krazy Congo: A huge indoor soft play area for young children.
- Gamezone: A giant arcade with over 150 different games, including the newest ones.
- Alona Hotel: The hotel right at the park for visitors staying longer. It has a restaurant with a glass roof and a bar. There's also an atrium with views of Strathclyde Loch.
Food and Drink
- The Family Restaurant: This used to be called Bizarre. It's a family-friendly restaurant with a bar.
- Downtown USA: A diner styled like the 1960s. It serves American food and drinks. It's decorated with Harley Davidsons and a real Italian carousel. This diner also has a 'Wimpy Bar' and 'Pancake Palace'.
- Cosmic Bowl: This is Scotland's first glow-in-the-dark bowling alley! It has a restaurant and an 'inside out' bar. You can also play arcade games like Time Crisis, basketball, and air hockey.
- Inside Out: This is the theme park's sports bar. 'Inside Out' shows many different sports on 6 large screens. The bar also has its own beer garden with views of Strathclyde Loch.

- Guiseppi's: The park's Italian coffee shop and ice cream parlor. This spot looks out over Strathclyde Loch. It serves a variety of coffees, ice cream, milkshakes, and sandwiches made with traditional Italian ingredients.
