MOM Brands Company, which used to be called Malt-O-Meal Company, was an American company famous for making breakfast cereal. It was started in Northfield, Minnesota. The company sold its cereals in most grocery stores across the United States.
MOM Brands made both hot cereals, like its famous Malt-O-Meal, and many types of cold cereals. Most of its cold cereals were similar to popular brands from big companies like Kellogg's and General Mills, but they were often sold in large bags instead of boxes. This made them a popular choice for families.
In 2015, another large cereal company, Post Holdings, bought MOM Brands. The company was renamed Post Consumer Brands, and it continues to make many of the same cereals today.

The Story of MOM Brands
The company began in 1919 when a miller named John Campbell created a new hot breakfast cereal. He mixed farina wheat with malted barley and called it Malt-O-Meal. His goal was to create a tasty, warm cereal that could compete with Cream of Wheat.
In 1927, the company moved to a larger mill in Northfield, Minnesota, to make more cereal. For many years, the company focused only on its hot cereal. It tried to sell corn flakes and puffed cereals in the 1940s and 1960s, but it was hard to compete with the bigger cereal companies.
Growing Bigger
The company, then called Malt-O-Meal, started to grow a lot in the early 2000s. It built new factories in Utah and North Carolina to keep up with demand. In 2002, it bought the bagged cereal business from the Quaker Oats Company, which added even more cereals to its lineup.
One of the company's most fun moments was in 2007. It teamed up with The Simpsons Movie for a special promotion. It packaged one of its cereals, Tootie Frooties, in a box that looked like "Krusty-O's," the cereal from the TV show. These special boxes were sold in 7-Eleven stores that were temporarily turned into Kwik-E-Marts.
On February 21, 2012, the company changed its name from Malt-O-Meal to MOM Brands. This new name was meant to show that it sold many different kinds of cereals, not just Malt-O-Meal. By this time, it had become the third-largest cereal maker in the U.S.
Joining with Post
On January 27, 2015, Post Holdings announced it was buying MOM Brands for $1.15 billion. After the sale was complete, the company became part of Post and was renamed Post Consumer Brands. Even though the company name changed, you can still find many of the classic Malt-O-Meal brand cereals in stores today.
