Early Life and Learning
MaPo Kinnord grew up in Cleveland, Ohio. She studied art at the Massachusetts College of Art in Boston. Later, she earned her master's degree from Ohio State University in Columbus. In 1995, she moved to New Orleans. There, she met a special teacher named John T. Scott.
Her Art and Teaching
Sculptures Inspired by Ancestors
MaPo Kinnord creates sculptures from clay. These sculptures look like the traditional mud huts found in Ghana. Her art helps us remember our ancestors and their stories. She even visited Northern Ghana to learn about pottery and building with clay.
Her work is often inspired by architecture, which is the art of designing buildings. She explores both the outside and inside of spaces using clay. MaPo Kinnord has also said that working with clay is like playing jazz music. It has a structure, but also allows for lots of creative freedom.
Teaching and Art Therapy
