Maartje Yvonne Helene Paumen (born 19 September 1985) is a famous former Dutch field hockey player. She is known for her incredible scoring ability. Maartje played for the Dutch national team for many years. She helped her team win many important titles.

She is one of the most successful field hockey players ever. Maartje is the all-time top scorer for the Dutch national team. She scored an amazing 195 goals in 235 games. She also holds the record for most goals in the Dutch national hockey league, called the Hoofdklasse.

Olympic Games Success

Maartje Paumen has won several medals at the Summer Olympics. These are the biggest sports event in the world.

Beijing 2008: Gold Medal

At the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing, China, Maartje won an Olympic gold medal. Her team, the Dutch national team, played against China in the final match. They won 2–0, becoming Olympic champions!

London 2012: Another Gold

The Dutch team kept their Olympic title at the 2012 Summer Olympics in London. They beat the Argentinian team 2–0 in the final. Maartje scored the second goal from a penalty shot. This goal was her fourteenth at the Olympics. This made her the top Olympic scorer in field hockey history!

Rio 2016: Silver Medal

In the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, Maartje won an Olympic silver medal. Her team played against Great Britain in the final. They lost after a penalty shootout, but still earned a fantastic silver medal.

World and European Championships

Maartje also had great success in other major tournaments.

World Cup Victories

She was a key player when the Dutch team became world champions. They won the 2006 Women's Hockey World Cup in Madrid, Spain. Later, they won again at the 2014 Women's Hockey World Cup in The Hague, Netherlands. Maartje was the top scorer in both the 2010 Women's Hockey World Cup and the 2014 World Cup.

Champions Trophy Wins

Maartje also helped her team win the Hockey Champions Trophy multiple times. They won in 2007 and again in 2011. This trophy is another important international competition in field hockey.

European Championship Golds

She also has several gold medals from the EuroHockey Nations Championship. These include wins in 2005, 2009, and 2011.

Awards and Recognition

Maartje Paumen's amazing skills were recognized worldwide. She was chosen as the FIH Player of the Year twice. She received this top award in both 2011 and 2012. This award goes to the best field hockey player in the world.

After her playing career, Maartje became an assistant coach for the Dutch club MOP. She previously played for clubs like Oranje Zwart, HC Den Bosch, and Royal Antwerp.
