MacRobertson's was a famous Australian company that made yummy chocolates and other sweet treats. It was officially called the MacRobertson's Steam Confectionery Works. The company started way back in 1880.

A clever person named Sir Macpherson Robertson founded it. The company's name, MacRobertson's, is a mix of his first and last names. For over 100 years, the company was based in Fitzroy, Victoria, a suburb in Australia. Later, it moved to Ringwood, Victoria.

MacRobertson's was also known for bringing some new and exciting sweets to Australia. They were the first to introduce chewing gum and cotton candy. In Australia, cotton candy is often called "fairy floss"!

The Story of MacRobertson's

How It All Began

Sir Macpherson Robertson started his sweet business in 1880. He was a very creative and hardworking person. He built his company into a huge success. People all over Australia loved his chocolates and candies.

Sweet Inventions

MacRobertson's wasn't just about making good sweets. They also brought new ideas to Australia. Imagine being the first to try chewing gum! Or tasting fluffy fairy floss for the first time! MacRobertson's made these fun experiences possible for Australians.

A New Chapter for the Company

Sir Macpherson Robertson passed away in 1945. After some years, in 1967, his family decided to sell the company. It was bought by a big English chocolate maker called Cadbury.

Just two years later, in 1969, Cadbury joined with Schweppes Australia. This created a new company called Cadbury Schweppes Australia.

Famous Sweets Live On

Even after the company was sold, many of MacRobertson's most loved products continued to be made. You might still know some of them today! These include:

  • Freddo (the frog-shaped chocolate)
  • Old Gold (a popular dark chocolate)
  • Snack (a chocolate bar with different fillings)
  • Columbines (a type of lolly)
  • Cherry Ripe (a chocolate bar with coconut and cherries)

For many years, these products still had the special MacRobertson's logo on their wrappers. This continued until 2002.

MacRobertson's Legacy Today

In 2009, Cadbury Schweppes changed again. The part that made drinks separated from the chocolate business. The chocolate part became Cadbury Australia. This company still uses the old MacRobertson's factory in Ringwood today. So, the sweet legacy of MacRobertson's lives on!
