Machachi is a city in Ecuador. It is the main town of Mejía Canton, which is part of the Pichincha province.

This city is located south of Quito, the capital of Ecuador. Machachi is surrounded by many amazing volcanoes. These include Atacazo, Corazon, Rumiñahui, Illinizas Peaks, Viudita Hill, Pasochoa, and Sincholagua.

Machachi also has a part of the huge, active Cotopaxi volcano. Cotopaxi is very tall, reaching 5,897 meters (19,347 feet) high. The area around Machachi is known for having eight volcanoes. This is why a famous explorer, Alexander von Humboldt, called the region "Avenue of Volcanoes."

The name "Machachi" comes from the Panzaleo language. It means "great active land." This name fits well because the area has many slopes and natural springs. These springs produce warm, mineral-rich water. In the fertile San Pedro valleys, there are about 22 such springs. Their waters are believed to have healing properties.

Machachi has a climate similar to Quito. The temperature usually ranges from a high of 19°C (66°F) to a low of 10°C (50°F). These are average temperatures for the whole year. The driest months are June, July, and August.
