Macharaviaya is a small, historic village in southern Spain. It is located in the mountains of the province of Málaga, within the sunny region of Andalusia. This charming village is part of an area known as La Axarquía.

The village was built on the ruins of an old Moorish settlement. Its name comes from an Arabic phrase meaning "Abu Yahya's Farm." Macharaviaya was once the home of the important Gálvez family. One family member, Matías de Gálvez y Gallardo, became the viceroy of New Spain (which was a large part of North America).

His son, Bernardo de Gálvez, was born in Macharaviaya. He became a famous governor of Louisiana. During the American Revolution, Bernardo helped the American colonists. He captured important cities like Baton Rouge, Mobile, and Pensacola from the British.

Today, the old part of Macharaviaya is protected to keep its history safe. Many Spanish and international artists, potters, painters, and writers live among the villagers.
