Maciej Kot (born on June 9, 1991) is a famous Polish ski jumper. He is part of Poland's national ski jumping team. Maciej has competed in the Winter Olympics twice, in 2014 and 2018. He won a gold medal at the 2017 World Championships. He also earned a bronze medal at the 2013 World Championship in the team large hill event. His last name, Kot, means 'cat' in Polish!

About Maciej Kot
Maciej Kot was born in Limanowa, Poland. He grew up in Zakopane, another town in Poland. His father, Rafał, used to be a physiotherapist for the Polish ski jumping team. Now, his father is a ski jumping expert for Polish TV.
Maciej also has an older brother, Jakub, who is also a ski jumper. Maciej studied at the University School of Physical Education in Krakow. He earned a master's degree in physical education. Maciej married Agnieszka Lewkowicz on May 18, 2019. She is a personal trainer and used to be an athlete herself. They met while studying at university.
Maciej's Ski Jumping Journey
Maciej Kot started his journey in the FIS Ski Jumping World Cup in December 2007. This event took place in Villach. He first scored points in the 2011/2012 World Cup season. On December 3, 2011, he finished 19th in Lillehammer.
He scored points twelve times that winter. His best result was 12th place, which he achieved twice. This happened in Lahti on March 4 and in Oslo on March 11. He finished 35th overall in the World Cup that season. This was the third best result among Polish ski jumpers. On March 15, 2012, he set his personal best jump of 200.5 meters in Planica.
Success in 2012 and 2013
On July 21, 2012, Maciej Kot achieved his first podium finish. This was during the Summer Grand Prix competition in Wisla. He shared the podium with famous jumpers like Simon Ammann. On September 30, 2012, he won another Summer Grand Prix competition in Hinzenbach. He finished ahead of Severin Freund. Maciej ended the 2012 Summer Grand Prix season in fifth place overall.
On January 1, 2013, he took 5th place in the Four Hills Tournament. This event was held in Garmisch-Partenkirchen. He also placed in the top ten in two more competitions.

At the FIS Nordic World Ski Championships 2013, Maciej finished 11th on the normal hill. He was 27th on the large hill. On March 2, 2013, he won a bronze medal in the team competition. His teammates were Kamil Stoch, Dawid Kubacki, and Piotr Żyła. This was a great achievement for the Polish team.
The 2012/2013 season was his best so far. He finished in the top 10 seven times. He ended the season in 18th place in the overall World Cup standings. At the end of the season, he became the Polish champion in ski jumping.
Winning Gold in 2016 and 2017
In the 2016 FIS Ski Jumping Grand Prix, Maciej Kot won 5 out of 10 competitions. He wore the yellow bib, which means he was the overall leader, for the entire season. He eventually won the overall Grand Prix title.
On December 3, 2016, the Polish national team made history. The team, including Żyła, Stoch, Kubacki, and Kot, won their first team competition for Poland. This happened in Klingenthal. Later, in Zakopane, the Polish team achieved second place in another team competition. On January 28, 2017, Poland won their second team competition in history in Willingen.
Maciej achieved his first individual victory in the 2016–17 FIS Ski Jumping World Cup on February 11, 2017. He tied for first place with Peter Prevc, both scoring 260.2 points. The next day, he finished fourth.
On March 4, 2017, the Polish national team made history again. The team, including Żyła, Kubacki, Kot, and Stoch, won their first ever World Champion title in a team event. They beat Norway and Austria at Salpausselkä K116 in Lahti, Finland.
Olympic Bronze in 2018
On February 19, 2018, Maciej Kot and his teammates won Poland's first Olympic medal in a team competition. The team included Stefan Hula, Dawid Kubacki, and Kamil Stoch. They earned a bronze medal, finishing behind Norway and Germany.
