Maciej Wojtyszko (born in Warsaw, Mazowieckie on April 14, 1946) is a famous Polish film director, screenwriter (someone who writes movie scripts), and author (a writer of books). He is known for creating many films, TV shows, and books, especially for young people.

About Maciej Wojtyszko
Maciej Wojtyszko finished high school in Warsaw in 1965. He then studied Philosophy at the University of Warsaw. After that, he went to the National Film School in Łódź. He graduated as a director in 1973.
He also taught at the Aleksander Zelwerowicz State Theatre Academy in Warsaw. He taught there from 1990 to 1993 and again from 1999 to 2002. He was also a leader at the Halina and John Machulskich Theatre School. He is a member of the Association of Polish Writers.
In 2002, Maciej Wojtyszko received a special award. It was called the Knight's Cross of the Order of the Rebirth of Polish. This award was given to him for his "outstanding contribution to Polish culture." This means he did amazing things for the arts and culture in Poland. He is married to writer Henryka Królikowska. They have two children: Maria Wojtyszko, who is also a writer, and Adam Wojtyszko, who is an actor and screenwriter.
His Work in Theatre
Maciej Wojtyszko started his career in theatre in 1986. His first play was Bench in Warsaw. He became well-known for adapting famous books for the stage. These included The Stormy Life of Lasik Roitschwantz and Love in the Crimea. He directed these plays at important theatres in Warsaw and Krakow.
His Work in Film and Television
Maciej Wojtyszko began directing films in 1984. His first film was Synteza (Synthesis), based on his own book. He gained international attention in 1990. This was for his four-part TV mini-series called Mistrz i Malgorzata. This series was based on a famous novel.
After this, Wojtyszko directed many successful TV series and films in Poland. One popular show was Miodowe lata (1998). This show was based on an American sitcom. He won an award for it at the Polish Humor Festival. He also directed Ogród Luizy (Louise's Garden, 2007). For this film, he received a special prize at the XXXII Polish Film Festival in Gdynia.
Maciej Wojtyszko as an Author
Maciej Wojtyszko started his writing career in 1969. His first book was Szpilki (Pins), a collection of funny stories. He has written many books for children and teenagers. Some of his books were even turned into animated TV series. These include Bromba i inni (Bromba and others, 1975) and Tajemnica szyfru Marabuta (The Secret Cipher of the Marabout, 1978).
His children's books often feature unusual characters. These characters face big questions about life. Wojtyszko once said, "I want to familiarize children with the amazing phenomenon of existence. All my books are about the fact that we live and enjoy life." This shows he wants kids to think about how wonderful it is to be alive.
