The Masovian Voivodeship is one of the 16 main regions, or voivodeships, in Poland. It is located in the east-central part of the country. Most of this region is part of the historical land called Masovia. The biggest city and capital of the Voivodeship is Warsaw.

This region was officially created on January 1, 1999. It is a very important part of Poland, known for its history, nature, and modern cities.

Geography and Nature

The Masovian Voivodeship is a large area in central Poland. It covers about 35,579 square kilometers. This makes it the biggest voivodeship in Poland.

A special natural area here is the Kampinos National Park. This park is home to many animals, including moose. It is also a UNESCO-designated biosphere reserve, which means it's a very important place for nature.

Major Cities and Towns

The capital city, Warsaw, is the largest city in Poland. It is a busy place with a rich history. The Warsaw Old Town is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. This means it's recognized globally for its special cultural value.

Other important cities in the region include Płock and Radom. Płock has a beautiful cathedral where Polish kings are buried. Radom is known for its historic Saint Catherine of Alexandria church.

History and Culture

The Masovian Voivodeship has many historical buildings. You can find old castles like Liw Castle and grand palaces. The Wilanów Palace in Warsaw is a stunning example of royal architecture.

This region is also famous for being the birthplace of two very important people. Marie Curie, a famous scientist who won the Nobel Prize, was born in Warsaw. Her birthplace is now a museum. Also, the famous composer Frédéric Chopin was born in Żelazowa Wola, which is also a museum today.

The Modlin Fortress is another interesting historical site. It is a large old military fort. The region also has its own railway system, called Koleje Mazowieckie, which helps people travel around.
