Mack's Apples, also known as Moose Hill Orchards, is a very old farm and orchard located in Londonderry, New Hampshire, in the United States. It's super famous because the Mack family ran it for over 290 years! That's eight generations of the same family working on the farm, making it the oldest family-run farm in New Hampshire.
The Story of Mack's Apples
The Mack family started this farm way back in 1732. John Mack came from Londonderry, Ireland, and settled in Londonderry, New Hampshire.
For many years, the family grew different crops. But in the 1800s, they started focusing a lot on growing apples. The farm officially became a business in 1962.
In the early 2000s, the farm stopped selling apples to big stores. They focused more on selling directly to people. In 2015, Andy Mack Sr. gave the farm to his son, Andy Mack Jr., and his daughter-in-law, Carol Mack.
In 2021, the farm was sold to a company called MHO Acquisitions LLC. They plan to keep the orchard running just like it always has.
What Mack's Apples Does Today
Mack's Apples is a really big farm. It covers about 400 acres of land in the middle of Londonderry. About 100 acres are just for growing apples!
The farm has a store where you can buy many kinds of apples. They also sell other yummy things like peaches, pumpkins, squash, maple syrup, and honey.
One of the most popular things to do at Mack's Apples is to pick-your-own apples. You can go out into the orchard and pick fresh apples right from the trees! They also have an ice cream stand, which is perfect for a treat on a warm day.
The town of Londonderry has helped protect the farm. They bought special agreements called conservation easements. This helps make sure the farm stays a green space and isn't built over with houses or other buildings.
Because it's such a well-known and historic place, important people sometimes visit Mack's Apples. For example, Barack Obama visited the farm three times when he was a politician. The farm has been a place where people share their ideas about important issues.
