Welcome to Mack's Apples!
Mack's Apples is a special place with a rich history. It's not just a farm; it's a landmark where families can enjoy picking their own apples and experiencing farm life. This article will tell you more about its amazing past and what makes it so popular today.
A Long Family History
The story of Mack's Apples began way back in 1732. A man named John Mack traveled from Londonderry, Ireland, and settled in Londonderry, New Hampshire. He started the farm that would become Mack's Apples.
Over many years, the Mack family continued to farm the land. In the 1800s, they started focusing a lot on growing apples. The farm officially became a registered business in 1962. For eight generations, different members of the Mack family took care of the farm.
In 2015, Andy Mack Sr. passed the farm's ownership to his son, Andy Mack Jr., and his daughter-in-law, Carol Mack. Then, in 2021, the farm was sold to a new company called MHO Acquisitions LLC. The good news is that the new owners plan to keep the orchard running, so people can still enjoy Mack's Apples for years to come!
What You'll Find at the Farm
Mack's Apples is a large farm, covering about 400 acres of land in the middle of Londonderry. About 100 acres of this land are dedicated to growing apple trees.
The farm has a wonderful store where you can buy many different kinds of apples. They also sell other tasty treats like peaches, pumpkins, squash, sweet maple syrup, and local honey.
One of the most fun activities at Mack's Apples is their "pick-your-own" apples. You can go out into the orchard and choose your own fresh apples right from the trees! They even have an ice cream stand, which is perfect for a treat on a warm day.
Protecting the Land
The town of Londonderry cares a lot about keeping Mack's Apples as a beautiful green space. To help with this, the town has bought something called "conservation easements." This means they have made agreements to protect parts of the farm, like a 23-acre section of apple orchard. These agreements help make sure the land stays a farm and doesn't get built on, so everyone can continue to enjoy its natural beauty.
Famous Visitors
Because Mack's Apples is such a well-known and important place in New Hampshire, many important public figures and leaders have visited the farm over the years. These visits help them connect with local communities and learn about places like Mack's Apples. Some of the notable people who have stopped by include Barack Obama, Kamala Harris, Joe Biden, and Bernie Sanders. Members of the Bush family have also visited this historic farm.
