Maddy Proud (born on December 4, 1993), also known as Madeleine Proud, is a talented Australian netball player. She played for the Adelaide Thunderbirds in the ANZ Championship from 2011 to 2016. Since 2017, she has been a key player for the New South Wales Swifts in the Suncorp Super Netball league. Maddy proudly captained the Swifts team that won the 2019 Suncorp Super Netball championship. She has also represented Australia in junior teams and at the Fast5 level, making her debut for the senior Australian team, the Diamonds, in 2022.

Maddy's Early Life and School

Maddy Proud was born and grew up in Adelaide, a city in South Australia. She attended Sacred Heart College from 2009 to 2011. After high school, she studied at the University of South Australia from 2012 to 2016. There, she earned a degree in Marketing. Later, from 2018 to 2020, she went to Macquarie University and completed a Masters in Creative Writing.

Maddy's Netball Journey

Starting Out in Netball

When Maddy was younger, she played netball for the Contax team. She also trained with the South Australian Sports Institute. Maddy showed her skills early on by representing South Australia in the under-17 age group.

Playing for Adelaide Thunderbirds

From 2011 to 2016, Maddy Proud played for the Adelaide Thunderbirds in the ANZ Championship. She was only 16 years old when she joined the Thunderbirds team. In 2012, Maddy also played for the Southern Force in the Australian Netball League. Her team, the Southern Force, won the ANL championship that year. In 2013, she also played with the Australian Institute of Sport team.

Joining the New South Wales Swifts

Since 2017, Maddy Proud has been a star player for the New South Wales Swifts in the Suncorp Super Netball league. In her first year with the Swifts in 2017, she won two special awards: the QBE NSW Swifts MVP (Most Valuable Player) and the NSW Swifts Members' Player of the Year. Maddy also captained the New South Wales Institute of Sport team, which finished third in the 2017 Netball New Zealand Super Club tournament.

In February 2019, Maddy was chosen to be the captain of the Swifts. She led the team to win the 2019 Suncorp Super Netball title! Even though she missed the second half of that season due to an injury, her leadership was still very important. She continued to be the Swifts' captain for both the 2020 and 2021 seasons.

Representing Australia

Maddy Proud has played for Australia in both the under-21 and Fast5 netball teams. In 2012, she was named the Australian Under-21 Team Player of the Year. She also had the honor of captaining the Australian team at the 2013 Netball World Youth Cup. Maddy was included in the senior Australian squad, known as the Diamonds, for the 2020–21 season. She officially debuted for the Diamonds in 2022.

Maddy as a Children's Author

In January 2018, Maddy Proud became a published author! She released her first children's book called Grace on the Court. This book tells the story of a 13-year-old netball player during her first year of high school.
